When Built To Spill wanted to find out what their music sounded like they locked themselves in Doug Martschs garage. Without a tentative conclusion or even a hypothesis the four members began to experiment.

Dinosaur Jr.

Many folks believe that Dinosaur Jr. were responsible for bringing classic rock influences to the indie rock relm. From the band's earliest works to their more recent releases, Dinosaur Jr have always featured a blistering, fed-back lead guitar layered over sonic soundscapes.
