Best Coast plus: The Lovely Bad Things Tuesday, May 28, 2013 Doors at 7:00 PM
Combine the sophisticated chill of a New York City winter with the girlish, laid back romance of California in the summertime and what to you get? The answer is Best Coast, the latest musical endeavor by perennially cool, self-described “weird girl” Bethany Cosentino. Best Coast was born when Cosentino decided to come home to LA after a time in New York City, to get a fresh start at living in the place she knows best—California. Quickly garnering praise from critics and listeners with the single “Sun Was High (So Was I),” Cosentino was approached by UK-based label Blackest Rainbow, who released her now sold-out tape Where the Boys Are. Also in the works are two new 7-inch’s, one being released by San Diego-based Art Fag Recordings and the other, the debut release from brand-new Brooklyn label Group Tightener.

Paul Banks of Interpol plus: Burning Hotels, These Machines Are Winning Friday, May 31, 2013 doors at 7pm
Identity’s a tricky thing in the annals of rock music. Whether David Bowie’s chameleonic mindfucks in the ‘70s, Dylan going electric, or Lou Reed’s perpetual metamorphoses, rock thrives on persistent flux in self-presentation.
Where does Paul Banks fit into this equation? As Interpol’s frontman, he’s largely been a cipher. While certainly not lacking in charisma, albeit in a steely and often sardonic manner (his dry, wicked sense of humor is largely lost in interviews), he’s often polarized and confounded listeners and critics alike.

The Monkees’ Peter Tork skyrocketed to fame in 1966, but the stories and musical heritage of this gifted, articulate musician and storyteller have remained unheard --and unseen-- until now. Still breaking new ground in a five-decade career, Peter Tork lifts the veil on stage with “In This Generation: My Life in the Monkees and so much more”. Previously unseen photos and footage, unheard songs, and hits fans know and love come together powerfully and gracefully as Tork weaves the tale of a musical education in folk and pop that culminates with his early years as a performer in the clubs of Greenwich Village. But it is a move to California, and a recommendation by friend Stephen Stills, that leads Peter to audition for a part in a TV series.
“Madness!! Auditions. Folk & Roll Musicians -- Singers for acting roles in new TV series. Running Parts for 4 insane boys, age 17-21. Want spirited Ben Frank's-types.”
He passed the audition of course, and alongside Mike Nesmith, Davy Jones, and Micky Dolenz, became forever known as one of The Monkees -- chart topping media sensations in both the 60s and 80s, with seven platinum albums to their credit.
“In This Generation: My Life in the Monkees and so much more” brings to life onstage the roller coaster ride of blistering TV ratings, concert tours, recording sessions, magazine covers, The Beatles, The Wrecking Crew, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Nicholson, MTV, Japan, Reunion tours, and 45 off-again on-again years with the group that the late Davy Jones called “The brothers I never had.”
His early romance with blues and folk intensified Tork’s interest in songs and songwriting, and many of his own compositions reflect that early dedication. Tork's song "For Pete's Sake" was the closing theme of the TV show's second season --a well deserved placement and a considerable compliment, knowing that songs written by Carole King, Boyce and Harte, Neil Diamond, Harry Nilsson, and John Stewart all were in the running for that honor. The stories behind those songs are among the wealth of insights featured "In This Generation.”
Reissue producer and writer Andrew Sandoval, who has overseen the legacy of the Monkees for over 20 years and arranged their acclaimed 2011 and 2012 tours, is producing the show alongside Peter.

Gary P Nunn plus: Two Tons of Steel, Ronnie Fauss Friday, June 7th, 2013 doors at 7 pm
Gary P. Nunn began his musical career as a 7th grader in a garage band in Brownfield, Texas, where he was an honor student and all-around athlete. Upon graduation from night school, he attended Texas Tech University and South Plains College while pursuing music on weekends playing with "The Fabulous Sparkles," a take-no-prisoners rock band that was the rage of West Texas during the sixties. In 1968 he transferred to the University of Texas at Austin immersing himself in the lively local music scene while studying pharmacy at UT. In 1972, Michael Martin Murphey, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Willie Nelson moved to Austin and a new Era in music was born. The movement was dubbed "Texas progressive," "outlaw music" among other monikers and Gary P. Nunn was right in the middle of it.

Tab Benoit plus: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch Friday, June 14, 2013 doors at 7:00 PM
Tab Benoit is a Cajun man who’s definitely got the blues. Born November 17, 1967, he grew up in Houma, Louisiana. A guitar player since his teenage years, he hung out at the Blues Box, a ramshackle music club and cultural center in nearby Baton Rouge run by guitarist Tabby Thomas. Playing guitar alongside Thomas, Raful Neal, Henry Gray and other high-profile regulars at the club, Benoit learned the blues first-hand from a faculty of living blues legends.
The nightly impromptu gigs were enough to inspire Benoit to assemble his own band – a stripped down bass-and-drums unit propelled by his solid guitar skills and leathery, Cajun-spiced vocal attack. He took his show on the road in the early ‘90s and hasn’t stopped since.

The Dirty River Boys plus: Mike & the Moonpies, RJV & Hell Country Revival Saturday, June 22, 2013 doors at 7:00 PM
Few bands can proudly claim to have recorded their first album acoustically. For a band to do so with success, they would need raw-vintage talent, a ballsy temperament and just the right amount of dirty faith. Throws these together along with a lively rock show and you get The Dirty River Boys.
The band has quickly won over audiences of all ages with four part harmonies and traditional but manipulated musicality. DRB is a West Texas band redefining genres. The band uniquely fuses classic folk and hints of bluegrass with a modern rock edge.

Twin Shadow plus: Elliphant Monday, June 24, 2013 doors at 8
Confess is the gorgeous, dynamic follow-up to Twin Shadow’s 2010 breakthrough Forget. That first record, co-produced by Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and initially released on Taylor’s Terrible Records label before getting picked up by 4AD, garnered a lot of praise from the likes of Rolling Stone (“fully-formed, haunted and haunting”), Allmusic (“lush, intricate pop”), and Pitchfork, which named it one of the best albums of 2010. Soon after its release, Lewis began amassing even more fans during a string of headlining club dates (a feat that Lewis will repeat this summer and fall on his “Ton Up” tour), while also opening for Florence and the Machine and playing a number of festivals, including Coachella, Sasquatch, Bonarroo and Austin City Limits.

Stryper plus: SuperNova Remnant Friday, June 28, 2013 doors at 7pm
Without a doubt, Stryper is one of the top Christian rock bands of all-time, and certainly the most celebrated Christian metal band of all time. Comprised of Michael Sweet (vocals/guitar), Oz Fox (guitar), Tim Gaines (bass), and Robert Sweet (drums), Stryper has been rocking since 1983, and is responsible for such '80s metal classic albums as 'Soldiers Under Command,' 'To Hell with the Devil,' In God We Trust,' and such MTV hit singles/videos as "Calling on You," "Free," and "Honestly." After a sabbatical for much of the 1990's, Stryper returned strong in the early 21st century. But it was not until their 2011 covers set, 'The Covering,' that the aforementioned definitive Stryper was reinstated, as the band welcomed Gaines back into the fold.
Stryper will be supporting their latest release with a full tour, which will see the quartet dust off a handful of originals they have not performed in ages, as well as selections from 'The Covering,' and all the expected hits. Beyond that, Sweet has high hopes for what lays in store for Stryper.

Alpha Rev plus: Dark Rooms Friday,July 12, 2013 Doors at 7:00 PM presented by 91.7 KXT
The light at the end of the tunnel, the first step toward revealing something that needs to be seen,” says singer-songwriter Casey McPherson of Alpha Rev. Following the Triple A Radio success of New Morning (2010), the band’s third album Bloom (March 19, 2013 on Kirtland Records) is a set of personally transformative and redemptive songs, born in the spirit of creative expansion, and a mandate to blossom and grow.
With a glistening rock sound that is at once fragile and tough, Bloom picks up threads from the past while it takes a big bite into the eternal here and now. Drawing from the wellspring of American history, the grandeur of its landscape, and life's sweet and tragic mysteries, McPherson leans into his personal challenges as well as the wages of the 21st Century.

Reckless Kelly plus: J. Charles & the Trainrobbers, Dead Flowers Friday, July 26, 2013 Doors at 7:00 PM
This is country-rock that shakes the rafters and then lets the dust settle with soothing slide guitar. When the mandolin joins in, just try and keep that lump in the throat from pouncing out. It doesn't matter whether there's a steady stream of fermented hops and barley flowing your way; the music does the talking around here.
