Without Mike McClure, the Red Dirt music that we know and love today would most certainly have a different sound to it. He began shaping that sound over a decade ago as the front man of The Great Divide. He continued shaping it as one of the most sought after producers of Red Dirt bands. Now the sound continues to evolve as he is set to release his first solo CD with his new band.

Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars formed in a refugee camp in the West African nation of Guinea after fleeing the horrific civil war in their native Sierra Leone. It was in this refugee camp that they were discovered by filmmakers Zach Niles and Banker White, who subsequently shot an award-winning documentary about their story. Their CD, “Living Like A Refugee,” was released last year on Anti- Records to critical acclaim. They have been touring the world extensively since the summer of 2006 spreading a message of hope and healing and decrying the insanity of war. The documentary, initially backed by such luminaries as Sir Paul McCartney, Keith Richards and Angelina Jolie has since won 13 awards at major film festivals, recently aired on PBS in the U.S. and is available via Netflix and in stores everywhere on DVD. They recently collaborated with Aerosmith on “Give Peace A Chance” for Amnesty International’s hit Darfur-focused benefit compilation CD, “Instant Karma” and have appeared on Oprah Winfrey, CBS’ Sunday Morning, CNN, National Geographic Channel and NPR’s Talk of the Nation. The band has seen the worst that this world can offer - yet, through their unflinching spirit and joyful sound they celebrate the best in all of us, and thankfully, they are now sharing their message and uplifting music throughout the world.

Beach House Beach House plus: Washed Out doors at 7:00 PM, show at 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 21, 2010
The Beach House you're about to meet isn't the same you may remember from before. Lives have been shuffled, tangled and re-aligned.
When Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally returned home to Baltimore last Winter, they were worn thin from touring and travel. But deep inside them hot energies were incubating, ideas they had been whispering back and forth in the wake of their sophomore full-length, 2008's Devotion. By the following spring they began handing themselves over completely to those impulses, holing themselves up and exchanging ideas in a new, secluded practice space for dangerously long periods of time.

McMurtry has long been lauded by critics, peers and music aficionados as being among the strongest songwriters of his generation. His works, which range from atmospheric ballads to no-holds-barred rockers, are populated by world-weary souls often longing for something different, if no better, than what they're now enduring. Perhaps in part because of his powerful reputation as a lyricist, coupled with his stirring vocal style, McMurtry is often not given his due as a guitarist. Though not one to stoop to flash just for the sake of effect, he can rip forth with a flurry of fat-toned notes when the material demands it. In the next breath, he'll frame a tender composition with poignant lead lines. He tends to travel with half a dozen or so guitars, which offers him a wide palate of tones and tunings from which to choose.

Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Cory Eberhard. Together these two achieve a raw energy rarely reached in the realm of electronic music. At a time when music lovers from almost all subcultures, and genres are finding common ground in the basic form of bangin' beats, Pretty Lights is giving the people what they want; electro organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion, and send dance floors into frenzies.

Guitarist Mick Taylor was neither an original member of the Rolling Stones nor still in the band when it began selling out sports stadiums in the late-'80s and '90s. But the sophisticated jazz- and blues-influenced guitar licks Taylor added to such classic albums as Sticky Fingers gave the Stones an added dimension they lacked before and after him.
Michael Kevin Taylor was born Jan. 17, 1949, in Welwyn Garden City, England. He grew up in Hatfield, a London suburb, and began playing guitar at age 9. Taylor became interested in joining a rock band after his parents took him to see Bill Haley & the Comets.
As a teen, Taylor played in bands called the Juniors and the Gods. In 1967, after ace guitarist Peter Green left John Mayall's Bluesbreakers to form Fleetwood Mac, Mayall chose Taylor as Green's replacement.
